21st June Water

Tineo to Pola de Allende 29km

Since moving over to the Primitivo one of the things that's caught my attention has been water. Now that might seem strange given that parts of the del Norte were by a whole expanse of water called the Atlantic ocean but there you are.

It's been water trickling underfoot as it finds its way via gravity along rocky paths and atbthe side of teacks, It's been water gushing and spurting from roadside fountains, spouts and taps. Lovely cold water under which I could place my bandana, my hat even my head for a cooling respite. And if it was safe to drink refill an emptying water bottle.

Water collecting in large stone vessel where people once gathered to do communal washing, or pouring from fast flowing streams into natural pools; perfect as nature's very own ice bath for tired and aching feet.

Water in the early morning mist and finest of rain that has greeted the day until the sun has burnt it away or when it hasn't has hung heavy in the air as the humidity has risen. Until finally, water has poured down from the skies in torrents as a storm moved in, racing across the horizon, obscuring the mountains and unleashing it's deluge accompanied by growling thunder and lashes of lightening tearing the sky apart.

And of course not forgetting the water from that life giving shower and first drink upon reaching the albergue which for me has been a cup of sweet, hot ginger

Today, on an initially misty and murky day, i walked  with Robert from the Netherlands and Bryant from Oregon,  USA and having posted earlier that  faith didn't  seem to discussed a great deal, we spent several hours debating dedenominations,  discipleship and our daily walk with God.

Indeed I caught up with Robert along the trail just as he was concluding his morning prayers and bible study which had posed him the question 'what am I so busy doing that prevents me spending time with God?'

They are both staying in a different albergue  but I am going across there later to join them in the shared communal meal that is on offer. A chance to continue sharing food, friendship  and faith.

It appears that waters which initially appeared shallow can in fact run deeper than you think.
